The first set of students graduating from the tDPT program were presented at the University of Michigan-Flint commencement ceremony which took place 5thMay,2013.Three of the graduating students Dr Nneamaka Abanum, Dr Bisi Oyarekua and Dr Kayode Alewi were present for the ceremony while others that were unavoidably absent included Dr Aderonke Eso, Dr Frank Iheakam and Dr. Izuchukwu Nwoba.

On the monumental occasion to mark this achievement between the alliance of University of Michighan-Flint and Nigeria, a high powered delegation of Nigerians both home and abroad were on hand to grace the event. The delegation from Nigeria was lead by the President of the NSP, Mr Taiwo Oyewumi and which included the Public Relations Officer of the Society, Bakare Ummukulthoum, the Vice-President of the National Postgraduate Physiotherapy College of Nigeria, Rtd Col Paschal Mogbo and the Registrar, Medical Rehabilitation Therapist Board of Nigeria, Dr J. D Jogunola.
 

The delegation based in the United States who essentially played key roles in facilitating the laudable initiative were Dr E. B John-Associate Professor, Radford University, Roanoke, VA, and Executive Director of the Nigeria Physiotherapy Network, Dr. Abiodun E. Akinwuntan - Associate Professor and Interim Associate Dean for Research, College of Allied Health Sciences, Georgia Regent University, Augusta, GA; and Chair, Nigeria-US PT Programs Alliance Executive Committee of the of the Nigeria Physiotherapy Network and Dr. Lukman Ganiyu - Owner and President, Spine & Orthopaedic Physical Therapy, Beloit, WI; and Vice-Chair, Nigeria-US PT Programs Alliance Executive Committee of the of the Nigeria Physiotherapy Network. Other Nigerians present at the event included Dr Bridget Birabi, former president of the Society who took out time to show her support as well as family and friends of the graduands.
 

The representatives of UM-Flint Prof Dona Fry and Prof Cindy Pfalzer were very pleased with the graduates of the program in the cohort and acknowledged their determination to see it through. The two Professors played a key role as well in the actualization of the program which included making trans-Atlantic visitations to Nigeria. On the day of the ceremony, the Chancellor of the school Prof Ruth J, Person in her opening statements said “Many are please to be in this room for the commencement program and worthy of note are the students from Nigeria who have toiled hard and have travelled over 6,000 miles to be a part of history”. She added by saying “It is not just a proud moment for the school but the entire delegation from Nigeria should be up standing for recognition” and this was greeted with a resounding applause from the audience.
