WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE LOC CHAIRPERSON
Dear colleagues,
Welcome to Kogi State in advance. Kogi state is located in the North central part of Nigeria. It is popularly called the Confluence State because Rivers Niger and Benue confluence at its capital, Lokoja, which is the first Administrative Capital of Nigeria. The state was created in August 1991 from parts of Kwara and Benue states. The state as presently constituted comprises the Old Kabba province of the Northern Nigeria.
There are twenty one (21) Local Government Areas in the State. The main ethnic groups are Igala, Ebira, and Okun while the minority groups include Bassa, Gwari, Oworo, Ogori, Egan and Kakanda.
The state shares boundaries with nine (9) other states and the Federal Capital Territory. The state is home to the largest Iron and Steel Industry in the subregion; The Ajaokuta Steel Industry and the Obajana Cement Factory, being one of the largest cement factories in Africa.
Agriculture is the main occupation of the state economy. The state is also blessed with many mineral resources e.g. iron ore, limestone, quartz, kaolin, coal, gold e.t.c.
Kogi state chapter of the Nigeria society of physiotherapy is happy to host the 55th edition of the 2015 annual scientific conference and the annual general meeting (AGM) of the Nigeria society of physiotherapy. This is the first time ever that this state will be given the opportunity.
The theme for this year’s conference is “Advancing Physiotherapy in Nigeria: The Next Step” while the subtheme is “Physiotherapy in Preventive Healthcare: Challenges and the way forward”. The conference holds from 25th – 31st October, 2015 at Lokoja, Kogi State capital.
We are looking forward to seeing you all and this will give opportunity to Physiotherapists both in Nigeria and in the diaspora to connect and interact and visit Tourist sites apart from the scientific and plenary sessions. Tourist sites to be visited include Mount Patti (The First Administrative Seat of Nigeria) and the Confluence Point by boats.
Once again, on behalf of the Local Organizing Committee and the entire Physiotherapists in Kogi State, I look forward to seeing every one of you. Be part of this history. Have a safe trip to Lokoja.
