KEY NOTE ADDRESS PRESENTED BY PRESIDENT TAIWO OYEWUMI, NATIONAL PRESIDENT OF THE NIGERIA SOCIETY (NSP) AT THE 5TH ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC WORKSHOP AND GENERAL MEETING OF THE NSP ORTHOPAEDIC MANUAL THERAPISTS (NSPOMT) AT UNTH, ENUGU ON 9TH JUNE, 2015
Protocols:
I consider it a rare privilege to give a key note address at this august occasion of the NSP Orthopaedic Manual Therapists (NSPOMT) specialty group 5th Annual Scientific Workshop and General Meeting. This group was inaugurated in year 2007 when I was the chief scribe (i.e. General Secretary) of the NSP. The group leadership deserves accolades for holding forth till date and providing the right direction. Congratulations. I recall that this specialty group started from the foot and progressed to the sacroiliac joint dysfunction. This ascending progression in the topics of choice in the last five years symbolizes growth and development of the NSPOMT.
I implore the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy Orthopedic Manual Therapists (NSPOMT) to continue to serve as a strong voice for the profession of Physiotherapy in Nigeria. NSPOMT should continue to raise the bar and lift the ante to international standard level and provide relevant information network among her members. I will be proposing combined meetings of all the specialties and pressure groups of the NSP from 2016 at the upcoming NSP General Meeting.
In addition, the NSPOMT should endeavor to do the following:
Promote informed and evidence based clinical practice.
Integration on Continuous Development Programmes and hand-on skills with the National Postgraduate Physiotherapy College of Nigeria (NPPCN) and the Nwuga Physiotherapy Foundation.
Extreme focus on research endevours.
Acquit members on how to write research grants proposal and grant reports writing skills.
Collaboration with funding agencies.
Development of standards of practice protocols.
Support NSP as a pressure group.
Address public health issues from time to time.
Participate actively in politics and lobby groups.
Engage actively in community outreach projects of the NSP.
Kindly permit me to solicit for your support in NSP on-going collaboration with the Federal ministry of Health (FMoH) at opening of employment opportunities for our teeming graduates of physiotherapy programmes. Further, efforts are being made by the NSP and the FMoH to use “Physiotherapy as a pilot platform for Medical Tourism in Nigeria.
Thank you for granting me the audience.
Long live the NSPOMT!
Long live the NSP!!
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!!
