"An incontrovertible truth is that the website, Facebook page and Twitter handle must be made more interesting, interactive and inclusive" President Taiwo Oyewumi.
In a brief chat with the newly elected NSP President, Mr Taiwo OYEWUMI, he shared his visions with regards to the Public Relations Team (PRTEAM) of the Society.
His visions revolved around the utilization of information technology in disseminating timely information about the activities of the Executive and the Society to all Nigerian Physiotherapists both at home and in the Diaspora. He further stressed that the NSP must ensure quick responses and pronouncement on issues of national importance. According to him the good people of Nigeria need to know who we are and what we do. Intense and upscale media campaign is the way to go, he stressed.
He acknowledged the various contributions on social media especially those made on Facebook pages, noting that feedback mechanisms must be provided in this era of evidenced-informed practice. In his opinion, such contributions, irrespective of nature of the language style adopted in the post, were reflective of the contributors' perspectives of the Executive activities. He noted that a higher proportion of the Facebook followers are young Physiotherapists whose voices must continually be allowed to resonate without any form of repression. However, he believes no efforts should be spared in ensuring that nobility and professionalism is not sacrificed on the platform of freedom of expression. The President demonstrated his desire to provide platforms for mentoring for the teaming young Nigerian Physiotherapists in order to secure the future of the profession.
An incontrovertible truth is that the website, Facebook page and Twitter handle must be made more interesting, interactive and inclusive. His plan is to make the website a forum that can deliver continuous professional development programmes to members and many more, thus making it a one-stop site that all Nigerian Physiotherapists will be proud to be associated with. Virtual learning and on-line training will be made available for Physiotherapists on NSP website.
