Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy (NSP) congratulates the duo of Dr Ngozi Okoronkwo, PT and Dr Maryam Shetima, PT for their appointment as Abia state commissioner for health and Nigeria minister nominee accordingly.
Ngozi is an astute professional and technocrat with vast experience not limited to roles as lead consultant costing and budget National Malaria Elimination Programme, founding partner Health Systems and Finance Solutions, World Health Organisation project lead and lead national consultant, USAID Federal Level Health Financing Technical Advisor for 8 states, technical Adviser National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA); Technical Specialist Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, UKaid Technical Adviser Project Evaluation Department for International Development (DFID), CHESTRAD Technical Adviser Project Evaluation. She was sworn in as Abia state commissioner of health on Friday 21 July 2023.
Maryam is also an astute professional and social entrepreneur known for philanthropic initiatives especially in the area of education where she has led the rehabilitation of schools and supporting women development. Politically, she participated as a member of the Presidential Campaign Team Field Operations, Youths and Women Presidential Campaign Team, member Strategic Communication. Maryam Shettima was awarded an Honorary Degree for her outstanding roles in Leadership and Community Development by the ESGT University of Technology, Benin Republic.
She continues to lend her voice to peace building, quality leadership protection and participation of women and other minorities in the society through the impactful and popular WeBelieve movement.
NSP president, Dr Nnenna Nina Chigbo PT, described the feats as a new dawn for physiotherapy profession in Nigeria, she urged members to support and pray for the best possible outcomes in political careers of our colleagues and for the growth of Nigeria.
