The NSP will on Tuesday, 16th April, 2013 inaugurate the foremost governing council of the National Postgraduate Physiotherapy College of Nigeria (NPPCN). After several meetings by stake holders and the NSP executives, the blue print of the College has been harmonised and will be ready for implementation. This land mark event is scheduled to take place at the Medical Rehabilitation Therapist Board of Nigeria Headquarters at CENTRAL MEDICAL COMPOUND, MURITALA MOHAMMED WAY.YABA LAGOS. AT 10.00AM prompt.
The idea of commencement of a clinical physiotherapy residency training programme came to life in the bid to enhance professionalism and standards of proficiency of practice which the NSP is committed to and passionate about.It is also tailored to provided an alternate means of career advancements/progression for physiotherapists and meet the yearnings of postgraduate clinical speciality training. Speaking at a recent stakeholders meeting in Lagos, the President of the Society, Mr Taiwo Oyewumi reiterated that the current administration would ensure that the NPPCN gets all the necessary support to take off on the right footing. He further stated that his team is committed to ensuring due and open processes consistent with credibility and integrity as the foundation of the College. He however also called on all physiotherapists to join hands and support the cause as unity in any endeavour will determine the desired outcomes. It would be recalled the National Postgraduate Physiotherapy College (NPPCN) was inaugurated at the Annual General Meeting which took place in the modernized ancient city of Benin on October, 2012.The governing council set for inauguration on the 16th of April is made up of a diverse mixture of think-tanks in the profession who will in the course of this assignment bring to fore thier vast expereince and fashion out strategies and implementation of processes in the College.
The NPPCN is expected to take off with seven faculties listed as follows:
- CARDIOPULMONARY PHYSIOTHERAPY
- COMMUNITY PHYSIOTHERAPY
- NEUROPHYSIOTHERAPY & MENTAL HEALTH
- ORTHOPAEDIC PHYSIOTHERAPY
- PAEDIATRIC PHYSIOTHERAPY
- SPORTS PHYSIOTHERAPY
- WOMEN’S HEALTH
The Fellowship of the NPPCN shall be awarded to professionals who succeed in the qualifying examination after completing the residency training programme in the respective specialty. Candidates are also required to complete a Professional Development Portfolio (PDP) according to the requirements of the specialty area.
