NSP wins big in the World Physiotherapy Congress 2021 max-h-[350px]

On the 9th of April 2021, the NSP community led by President Nnenna Chigbo were online for the opening session of the World Physiotherapy Congress 2021 online. 

The congress declared open by President Emma Stokes whom welcomed everyone and started by talking about disruptions caused by Covid19 pandemic and the impressive role Physiotherapists world wide are playing to support people living with Covid19. The president paid tribute to Physiotherapists whom were lost along the way and acknowledged that physiotherapy practice will be safe in the hands of the present generation of students and recent graduate.

Dr Tedros Adhanom, WHO director general, also used the opening session to thank physiotherapists for the essential role they played and are continuing to play in intensive care settings, vaccination programmes and providing rehabilitation for people living with Covid19. He also stated that it is critical that rehabilitation is recognized as the key to living a long and healthy life.

Emma Stokes declared the congress open by encouraging physiotherapists to connect with each other in the congress which will see participants that might never had the opportunity to attend be in attendance.

The congress recorded numerous knowledge packed presentations  which covered all areas of specialty areas and networking sessions. 

NSP was made proud by Amarachi Destiny Ezuma,she presented ‘Effects of Six-Week Pedometer Based Walking Program on Physical Activity Level, Body Composition and Anti Oxidants in Breast Cancer Survivors: A Randomised Control Trial‘ and won the World Physiotherapy outstanding platform presentation award (African Region). Chuka Umeonwuka presented ‘Unilateral Spatial Neglect Rehabilitation Post-Stroke: Current Treatment Options, Practice and Knowledge of Physiotherapists’ and won The World Physiotherapy outstanding poster presentation award (African Region).

Likewise, a state of the art presentation by Sam Ibeneme and his team on "Assessment of particulate matter concentration, cardiovascular and respiratory functions in cement workers, automobile spray painters and woodworkers".

The congress was attended by physiotherapists from 122 countries with Tokyo announced host of the 2023 confrence during the closing ceremony on Sunday 11th April 2021.
