Communique issued at the end of the emergency Expanded National Executive Council (ENEC) meeting of the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy (NSP) held on Wednesday, 23rd February 2022
Preamble
The Expanded National Executive Council (ENEC) of the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy (NSP) held an emergency meeting on Wednesday, 23rd February 2022.
The ENEC noted a document recently circulating on social media carrying a purported increment of fees by the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists' Board of Nigeria (MRTBN). The ENEC having received several complaints from members and also tried without success to engage MRTBN to respond to the contents of the document has resolved as follows:
Resolutions
1) The ENEC considers this circulation nothing but a rumor as said document had no signatories neither had the National Executive Council (NEC) of the NSP been informed at any point in time by MRTBN about the purported increment.
2) As it has been the usual practice in the past, NSP expects a robust consultation of stakeholders in any event that MRTBN wishes to increase fees of any kind.
3) Therefore, the ENEC wishes to use this medium to appeal for calm amongst members and advice everyone to completely disregard the contents of said document while carrying on with their normal practices within the ambience of the law.
4) The ENEC wishes to state unequivocally that NSP will resist any form of unfounded increment of fees at this time to prevent any further hardship on her members or any detrimental effect on both public and private Physiotherapy practice.
5) NSP is resolute about championing job creations and encouraging private practice amongst her members.
Conclusion
The President and ENEC wish to reiterate their commitment to ensure that the welfare of members and progress of the profession remain paramount at all times.
