NIGERIA PHYSIOTHERAPISTS HOLD PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS.
The ongoing 55th Annual Scientific conference of the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy(NSP) on Tuesday continued with pre-confrence workshop and scientific presentations by seasoned Physiotherapists.
Earlier in the day, the conference hall of Reverton Hotels Lokoja was filled up by Physiotherapy heads of departments under the aegis of Committee of Heads of Physiotherapy Departments in Nigeria(CHOPDIN) for a closed door meeting which lasted for about three hours.
Speaking on what was discussed in the meeting, a head of department who pleaded anonymity because she was not allowed to speak to the press said the meeting discussed issues ranging from administrative matters to challenges faced by the HODs in the discharge of their duties among others. The Secretary of CHOPDIN, PT. Oluyinka Afolabi, who is the head of physiotherapy department at state specialist hospital, Ondo state has however promised that a communique would be issued by the committee in due course.
The pre-confrence workshop with the theme "Evidence Based Practice: Integrating Research to Patient care" which was organized by the NSP education committee in collaboration with Nwuga Physiotherapy Foundation and facilitated by Dr. Adetoyeye Oyeyemi, Dr. Micheal Egwu and Dr. Awotidebe Adedapo held from 11am to 6pm with intermittent tea and lunch breaks.
Another workshop with the theme "Intensive care Physiotherapy" which held simultaneously with the other was facilitated by Rev. Dr. Jaiyesimi Adeoluwa, a former NSP President and a consultant cardio-pulmonary physiotherapist at University college hospital, Ibadan.
The event of the day was capped up by a well organized cocktail party which lasted from 7pm to 9pm
Activities for the week continued on Wednesday with plenary and scientific sessions where Prof. J.A. Balogun spoke extensively on Professionalism in Physiotherapy Practice: Past, Present and future. Comr. F.O. Faniran and Dr. Adetoyeye Oyeyemi just delivered their presentations on the "Anatomy of a sucessful physiotherapist": Professionalism and Inspiration respectively.
Dr. R.A Adedoyin, Dr. Adesola Odole and Dr. A.T Onigbinde will all speak on the following topics "Overview of Quality of health delivery services", "Emerging trend of integrating Tele Physiotherapy into practice" and "Pharmacophysiotherapy: The next step for a modern day clinical Physiotherapy practice in Nigeria" respectively.
